‘NC, UML have no alternative than joining govt’

Gachhadar
BIRATNAGAR, JAN 28 -
Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadar remarked that the opposition parties—Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML— would be brought on board to form national consensus government soon.
“They have no alternative than to join the present government,” he said speaking to media persons at the Biratnagar Airport on Saturday. “I am sure that they would not hide in the jungle,” he added.
Gachhadar claimed that Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM), an alliance of five Madhes based political parties, had played an important role in the peace process by bringing the major three political parties, UCPN (Maoist), NC and UML, who were sharply divided on the issues of peace process, to consensus.
He clarified that the controversial decision to legalise the land transactions made by the Maoist’s parallel government during the decade-long conflict would not be implemented.
Gachhadhar, also the Chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik, said that SLMM would only accept the constitution that ascertains federalism. Gachhadar further expressed his optimism in forwarding the peace process.
Saying that the Maoist combatants opting for voluntary retirement will begin to leave the cantonments on Jan 30, Gachhadar said that he had held discussions with Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal about the peace process before leaving for Biratnagar.
