KATHMANDU, JAN 06 -
A charity network on Wednesday distributed around 20,000 pieces of clothes to 600 Dalit and marginalised families affected by cold in Rautahat’s Dumariya VDC.
Help Nepal Network, which is distributing the clothes in collaboration with an NGO called Sano Paila, plans to provide similar assistance to poor families in Shirahi VDC, Mahottari district, on Friday.
Kanchan Jha, director of Sano Paila, said the assistance will promote mutual affection at the grass-roots level. The network received an overwhelming response when it appealed on Facebook to people to donate clothes 10 days ago. It received hundreds of clothing items from people in Kathmandu and about Rs 300,000 from Nepalis abroad. The network also bought 1,400 blankets, 1,500 mufflers, 1,200 hats with Rs 300,000 with its own funds.
“This support is a lesson for politicians who are categorising people in Tarai and hills,” said Arun Singh Basnet, chairman of the network.
Help Nepal was established 10 years ago to encourage Nepali citizens and organisations to contribute to the welfare of Nepalis. It has offices in several countries but does not use the assistance to meet administrative costs. It has also carried out a number of development projects in Nepal.
